Abstract
1,141,495. Magnetrons. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. 3 May, 1966 [16 Aug., 1965], No. 34961/65. Heading H1D. In a magnetron the cathode comprises a directly heated cathode filament 1 supported in a helical groove 2 in a cylindrical secondary emissive body 3, the filament being used for initiating the discharge and then switched off. The filament 1 may be insulated from the body 3 by threaded beads or by providing the walls of the groove 2 with a layer of insulation, e.g. alumina. The secondary emissive body 3 may comprise a beryllium-copper alloy having an oxidized surface.
