Abstract
1,218,667. Thermionic cathode constructions. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 18 Nov., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 54690/68. Heading H1D. A heater for an indirectly heated cathode comprises a wire core 11, e.g. of tungsten, with a first coating 13 of insulating material, a third coating 17 of insulating material and a second intermediate coating 15 having a higher thermal emissivity than the material of the first and third coatings. The insulating material of coatings 13 and 17 is preferably aluminium oxide but may be the oxide or silicate of beryllium or titanium, and the third coating 17 may be between 0À0005 and 0À0015 inch thick. The material of the second coating 15 may be aluminium oxide mixed with graphite, lampblack or tungsten metal particles.
