[Also in Division C7] A method for manufacturing black heaters for electron valves on cathode - ray tubes for example, comprises forming an aluminium oxide layer on the surface of the heater and then depositing by electro-phoresis upon the oxide layer tungsten and/or molybdenum containing particles from a compound held in suspension in a liquid, the heater being then subjected to reduction in a hydrogen stream at 950‹ to 1550‹ C. to produce a finely divided black metal coating on its surface. In examples, tungsten acid and butyl alcohol or molybdenum oxide and 1À2% collodion solution are ground in a porcelain grinder to obtain the suspension. Reductions at 1000‹ and 1550‹ C. are instanced.
