Abstract

1,141,318. Electric steam irons. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, N.V. 21 July, 1966 [24 July, 1965], No. 32749/66. Heading D1A. A steam iron comprises a needle 13 controlling the supply of water to a steam chamber 2 whose shaft 12 passes through a valve 9 biassed by springs 11 to close the inlet of the water reservoir 5 and forms the stem of a steam pressure safety valve 17. The reservoir is filled through a duct 7, 8 and valve 9. Shaft 12 also carries a flap 14 for closing the aperture 3 between the reservoir 5 and the steam chamber 2. In operation, water flows from reservoir 5 into chamber 2 where it is heated and rises through tube 22 into reservoir 5, the circulation continuing until all the water is boiling and steam emerges through duct 23. If the pressure becomes excessive, valve 17 opens.
