Abstract

114,065. Walker, W. J. May 1, 1917. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel; liquid fuel. supplying.-Fuel enters a cavity 5 in a valve 2 from the orifico 12. The valve 2 is forced to the right, pushing the valve 3 before it, until the cavity 5 is above the cylinder port 10, when air which has been highly compressed in the cylinder 4 ignites the vapour arising through the port 11, thereby augmenting the air pressure which forces the charge thus ignited into the cylinder. Air enters the cylinder 4 from the main cylinder through the passage 3<1> in the valve 3 during the compression stroke. The cavity 5 in the valve 2 is adjustable hy the screwed plug 2". The apparatus may be used in engines igniting at constant pressure or at constant volume, or each cylinder may have two such pieces of apparatus, one supplying a charge which ignites at constant volume which is followed by another igniting at constant pressure.
