Abstract
1,140,561. Gas burners. GAS COUNCIL. 8 Feb., 1966 [10 Nov., 1964], No. 45726/64. Heading F4T. A gas burner comprises a combustion chamber 7 lined with refractory material 8 and having an inner end wall formed by a plate 9 provided with gas orifices 10 and air orifices 11, which air orifices 11 open directly from an air manifold 12 supplied from an inlet 13. The gas orifices 10 are connected through the air manifold with a gas manifold via tubes 14 which are either welded to or fit with the plate 9. A distribution plate 17 is fitted within the gas manifold leaving an annular gap 18 around its periphery and the manifold is fed with gas through inlet 16 retaining a radio setting valve 19. The air orifices 11 are arranged around the gas orifices 10, and the gas orifices arranged symmetrically about the axis of the cylindrical combustion chamber. In the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the combustion chamber is of rectangular crosssection and the gas tubes 14 open into an elongated orifice 10 arranged along the major axis of the cross-section with the air orifices along each side of this orifice. In the embodiment of Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the combustion chamber is formed with a convergent outer portion 23 and has only a single gas orifice eliminating the necessity for a gas manifold. In the embodiment of Fig. 7 (not shown), the gas orifice is surrounded by an annular air orifice 25. The flow area ratio between the combustion chamber and the air orifice or orifices is preferably between 12 and 24 : 1 and the total area of the gas orifices is not less than twice that of the air orifices.
