Abstract
1413581 Adjustable flame burners BLOOM ENG CO Inc 10 April 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 17148/73 Heading F4T An adjustable flame burner has a hollow body 11 with a refractory baffle 14 forming a downstream end wall thereof, a circular array of aperture 24 through the baffle 14 for the passage of comburant gas therethrough, a fuel outlet opening 18 in the baffle 14 from which opening 18 the apertures 14 are equidistantly spaced, fuel supplying means 17 connected to opening 18 and defining with the body 11 an annular chamber 20 communicating with a comburant gas inlet 33 and with apertures 24, and adjusting means 30, 31 within the chamber 20 for selectively preventing comburant gas from passing through at least one but not all of apertures 24 so as to permit flame adjustment. The adjustment means may comprise three independently movable shafts 31 carrying refractory plugs 30 whereby one, two or three of the nine apertures 24 may be selectively blocked by the plugs 30. Shafts 31 may be moved manually or automatically by control means responsive to the temperature within a furnace to which the burner is applied. Apertures 24 may have their axes parallel or inclined to the axis of chamber 20 and may be of convergent or divergent crosssection. The fuel supplying means may comprise coaxial fuel ducts 17, 35 connected to independent fuel sources or to a common source via an adjustable close-off means. A spinner in duct 17 may spin the fuel therefrom in a direction opposite to the direction of air spin caused by spirally formed apertures 24.
