Abstract

1,138,382. Polyvinyl alcohol compositions. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 22 July, 1966 [26 July, 1965], No. 33020/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions B2 and G2] An antistatic coating composition comprises an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol and an alkali metal halide containing a dispersion of a matting agent having particles of a crosssectional diameter between 0À5 and 15 microns. The preferred halide is potassium chloride and the preferred matting agent is silica particles or polymethyl methacrylate beads. The compositions may be used to prepare photographic films. A further subbing composition useful in preparing the films comprises a copolymer of vinylidene chloride, an alkyl acrylate, e.g. methyl acrylate and itaconic acid. In the example the subbing composition also contains resorcinol, saponin and water; the antistatic composition also contains cetyl betaine, zirconium nitrate and potassium hydroxide.
