Abstract
1,137,474. Bleaching textiles. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT. 10 Jan., 1966 [12 Jan., 1965], No. 1085/66. Heading D1P. Textiles are bleached by treating them with a solution containing an alkali or alkaline earth metal chlorite at ambient temperature, there being added to the bleaching solution sufficient alkali, e.g. sodium hydroxide, to provide a pH of 11 or more at the beginning of bleaching and, as activator, potassium persulphate, chloral hydrate, formaldehyde or a substance that evolves formaldehyde under the conditions of bleaching or gluconic acid lactone. The bleaching solution may also contain an alkyl phenol polyglycol ether and after impregnation fabrics e.g. cotton cloth, may be rolled on to glass rolls and wrapped in a polyethylene film while bleaching takes place.
