Abstract

1402202 Removing sodium chlorate from caustic soda solutions HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 8 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972] 926/73 Heading C1A Caustic soda substantially free from sodium chlorate is made by (1) adding ammonia to an aqueous caustic soda liquor containing at least 40% by weight of sodium hydroxide and a contaminating amount of sodium chlorate, (2) heating the resulting mixture at or near its boiling point to decompose the sodium chlorate and to remove water vapour until the sodium hydroxide content of the mixture is increased to at least 90% by weight and (3) recovering from the heated mixture a product comprising caustic soda substantially free from sodium chlorate.
