Abstract

1438635 Anhydrous sodium sulphate COURTAULDS Ltd (Courtaulds (Canada) Ltd) 12 Sept 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 42493/72 Heading C1A An anhydrous Na 2 SO 4 is recovered from contaminated Glauber's salt by introducing it into an aqueous slurry of anhydrous Na 2 SO 4 , evaporating the water of crystallization from the slurry in a continuously circulating system and separating the resulting crystals; the slurry contains 0À1-0À22 moles of anionic surfactant per million parts of slurry. The Glauber's salt may be the crude salt crystallized from a viscose spinning bath containing an anionic surfactant. The concentration of the anionic surfactant may be reduced to the desired range by adding a cationic agent.
