Abstract
1520698 Anhydrous sodium sulphite ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 28 Jan 1977 [30 Jan 1976 3 Aug 1976] 03566/77 Heading C1A Anhydrous sodium sulphite is prepared by introducing into a saturated aqueous solution of Na 2 SO 3 containing less than 3 p.p.m. dissolved iron and having a pH of 6À5-7À6, anhydrous sodium carbonate concurrently with an SO 2 -containing gas stream, in such relative proportions to maintain the pH in the stated range and a temperature of solution above 35‹ C., to form a slurry of anhydrous Na 2 SO 3 , and the crystals are separated from the slurry. Mother liquor from which sodium metabisulphite has been obtained by crystallization may also be introduced concurrently with the Na 2 CO 3 and gas.
