Abstract

1,208,416. Crystallization. STRUTHERS SCIENTIFIC & INTERNATIONAL CORP. 31 Oct., 1967 [1 Nov., 1966], No. 48918/66. Heading C1A. Sodium carbonate monohydrate is crystallized from its aqueous solution in the form of hexagonal columns, which are as long as they are wide, by adding sufficient sodium sulphate to provide a SO 4 <SP>2-</SP> concentration at the start of crystallization of approximately 0À4% by weight. In the example sodium carbonate is dissolved in water at 60‹ C. and sodium sulphate is dissolved in by stirring. The saturated solution is heated to evaporate some water. A slurry is thus produced from which the sodium carbonate monohydrate crystals are filtered. -
