Abstract

1,134,583. End catcher and knotter. L. SAVIO. 26 June, 1967, No. 29389/67. Heading D1J. A catcher and knotter for broken thread ends of thread normally passing from an unwinding bobbin 1 to a winding bobbin 2 comprises two suction tubes 8 and 9 each of which have loop-shaped portions extending around a knotting device 4, 5 and each of which have slots 208, 209 extending along the loop portions facing the knotter 4, 5. On breakage of the thread the end F1 from unwinding bobbin 1 is sucked first in and around tube 9 and then is drawn taut out of the slot. Likewise the end F2 from the winding bobbin is first drawn through the tube 8 then drawn taught out of the slot to the position shown by the continued suction. Knotter 4,5 is then operated to join the ends. Preferably a hook 7, arranged at or near the intersection of the planes containing tube loops 8, 9, is disposed so as to catch one of the thread portions emerging from the slots and locate the threads parallel or close to each other. During winding the thread runs to tube 9 through orifice 109 and out through slot 209. Compressed air can be fed through tubes 108, 109 so as to vary the pressure in suction tubes 8, 9, e.g. to a pressure above or below atmospheric pressure. Automatic winding stopping means 6 may act when the thread breaks. Winding bobbin 2 can be reversed for several turns by slit drum 3 to feed the thread F1 into suction tube 8.
