Abstract

1292090 Preparing cop yarn ends W REINERS VERWALTUNGS GmbH 12 May 1971 [16 May 1970] 14387/71 Headings D1F and D1J A cop handling apparatus of the kind in which an end of the thread wound on the cop is drawn off and then inserted into the tube of the cop includes a measuring device that monitors whether the thread volume of the thread to be inserted in the tube exceeds or falls short of a pre-selected valve. In Fig. 2 a wound cop is placed over a suction nozzle 160 whereafter the cop is rotated to unwind the thread end which is then sucked into a suction channel 201. An arm 203 then hooks the thread and swings it through a cutter 210 into a monitor 501 that determines whether the thread is (a) absent; (b) present; (c) present but not suitable by virtue of being, for example, in the form of a plurality of turns. Fig. 1 shows how the cops drop in turn from a container 4 onto rollers 61, 62 that rotate the cop in an unwinding direction whilst the apparatus of Fig. 2 is operating. The unwound end is then inserted into the cop tube. Thereafter the cop drops down onto a belt 7 and is carried to a winding station unless the monitor 51 has indicated condition (a) or (c). In this event the monitor causes a magnet 503 to actuate a lever 502 in a manner detaching the faulty cop from the belt 7 and depositing it in container 499.
