Abstract
1,133,113. Al base alloy forgings. ALUMINUM CO. OF AMERICA. Feb.3, 1966 [Feb. 5, 19651, No. 4867/66. Heading C7A. Forgings which are substantially immune to stress corrosion in the short transverse grain direction under a stress up to 50% of the yield stress in this direction are formed from alloys comprising Cu 3 - 6% Mg 0À8 - 3% Mn 0À3 - 1% the balance being aluminium apart from incidental elements and impurities, in which the minimum magnesium content is 0À32 Cu when Mn does not exceed 0À5% and 0À2 + 0À32 Cu - 0À4 Mn for Mn contents above 0À5%. The alloys may contain Si up to 0À5% Fe up to 0À5% Cr up to 0À1% Zn up to 0À25 % Ni up to 0À05% Ti up to 0À05% and B up to 0À002%. The hot worked body having a substantially short transverse grain configuration may be solution treated at 850 - 950‹ F., quenched, optionally cold worked at 60 - 100‹ F. and then aged at 300 - 400‹ F.
