Abstract

[Also in Division F1] A spray producer suitable for use with cropspraying apparatus comprises a pair of cylindrical gauze members 23, 24 mounted on one end of a spindle 4 which is rotated by a turbine device 2 located in an air current in a flexible duct 1 and provided with a rim (17), figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) connected to a hub section 16 by spokes 18. The device 2 may be manufactured from nylon, a light alloy, or titanium and its blades and spokes &c. are designed and/or shaped, figs. 2-10 (not shown) to produce a minimum disturbance of the airstream in the duct 1. The airstream may be produced by a motor-driven fan and the apparatus may be carried in the form a knapsack. The gauze members are fed by a pair of diametrically opposed tubes 25, each tube being of oval cross-section. Fixed vanes 26 reduce the whirling of the airstream and a rubber seal 11 is provided with a lip 12 which in operation is moved away from the spindle housing by centrifugal force and prevents the entry of dirt into the housing.
