Abstract
1,127,242. Plate heat exchangers. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. 15 Oct., 1965 [19 Oct., 1964], No. 42472/64. Heading F4S. Each of a plurality of heat exchanger plates 10 is provided around its periphery with beading of rectangular cross-section and made of a synthetic resin particularly with elastomeric properties, the bead standing proud of both sides of the plate and having gaps or recesses therein which provide fluid inlet and outlet ports 12 for the plate interspaces when the plates are stacked to form the heat exchanger. A group of the ports may be encircled by a duct member 14 which may be of the same material as the beading and secured thereto by an adhesive. The beads of adjacent plates may be bonded together by an adhesive, or the seal between adjacent beads may be effected merely by the clamping together of the stack of plates. The beading may be formed by attaching strips to opposite faces of the plate 10 as shown. Alternatively the bead may be formed as a single strip grooved to receive the plate edge, or it may be moulded in situ on the plate. The plates may be corrugated or dimpled to provide contact points between adjacent plates in the plate interspaces, or secondary heat transfer members (unspecified) may be provided in the plate interspaces and are attached to the plates by welding, soldering or brazing.
