Abstract

A plate heat exchanger comprises a plurality of generally rectangular, corrugated plates assembled together to define heat exchange passages therebetween, permanently joined, for example by solder or adhesive, at support surfaces 7, 10 provided at the periphery of each plate, and around openings provided in each plate for conducting media to and from the passages, and at support points formed by the corrugations 8. The rim of each plate may be arranged to allow the pates to be nested into each other e.g. as shown or alternatively the rim may have a U or Z-shaped cross-section which on assembly is in abutment with the rim of an adjacent plate (e.g. Fig. 4 and 5 now shown).
