Abstract

1,071,682. Plate type heat exchangers. HEAD WRIGHTSON & CO. Ltd. July 9, 1965 [April 10, 1964], No. 14918/64. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a stack of corrugated rhomboidal plates 11 supported in a frame 12, the corrugations of each plate being at an angle to those of the adjacent plates. Adjacent plates may be in contact or spaced from one another. One side of each of the fluid spaces formed between adjacent plates is closed by a sealing member 16, the sealing members on one side being staggered in relation to those on the other side. Each sealing member 16 may be a flat strip, as shown, shaped and sealed to the corrugations, or channel-shaped and sealed to a flange formed at the edges of the plates 11, or an L-shaped flange integral with one plate and sealed to a planar flange on the adjacent plate. The two fluids flow in alternate spaces and in opposing directions between their respective headers 19, 19 and 20, 20 of detachable side covers 18 which seal with frame 12 and end plates 17.
