Abstract

1,122,156. Feeding webs. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 20 Feb., 1967 [28 Feb., 1966], No. 7919/67. Heading B6B. In web-roll changing apparatus, the leading end of the replacement web is positioned on a cutting and taping board 16, where the leading edge is trimmed by a knife 18 and an adhesive splicing tape attached. Thereafter the board 16 is rotated so that the rounded portion 16a registers with a depression in a splicing board 8 and the end of the web transferred manually to the splicing board. The splicing board 8 (which is identical to board 9) is rotatably mounted at 8<SP>1</SP> to an arm 5, pivoted with a similar arm 6 to a shaft 7. A cam follower pin 12 attached to the board 8 runs in a cam slot 10<SP>1</SP>, and has the effect of rotating the board 8 as the two arms 5 and 6 are pivoted downwardly, so that the two splicing boards 8 and 9 come face to face (Fig. 2). The cam follower pin 13 for the board 9 runs in cam slot 11<SP>1</SP>. A knife 20 on the board 9 severs the old web, which falls away, and both webs are held to the faces of the splicing boards by suction, which is turned off when the boards come into face to face contact to cause the splice. Splicing board 9 may be used to carry the leading end of the new web, in which case switches 25 and 26 are changed so that the cam follower pins 12 and 13 run in cam slots 10<SP>11</SP> and 11<SP>1</SP> respectively.
