Abstract

1285514 Web splicing STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 8 Dec 1970 58199/70 Heading B8R The trailing and leading edges of two paper tapes are spliced by overlapping the edges on a support, clamping and cutting the edges using a pivotable cutting edge, applying an adhesive tape to the cut edges and pressing the adhesive tape on to the tapes and removing the extremities of the adhesive tape on opposite sides of the tapes using a roller which is provided on opposite ends with cutting edges. The apparatus comprises a fixed support 1 and a movable support 2 spaced from the support 1 by an oblique gap 11 and mounted resiliently for vertical displacement parallel to the gap 11 during cutting of the edges of the tapes by a cam on a handle 27 which is mounted pivotally and which carries the cutting edge (26, Fig. 1). The supports are provided with longitudinally aligned guide grooves 5, 6 in which are disposed the overlapped trailing and leading edges of the tapes and with rebates 31, 32, extending parallel to the gap 11 and forming a guide groove 34 for the adhesive tape 38. Apparatus is associated with a hand tool comprising a handle and a roller whose ends are provided with cutting edges.
