Abstract

1430441 Cutting and splicing films STYNER & BIENZ AG 19 June 1973 [20 July 1972] 29150/73 Heading G2E Film cutting and splicing apparatus comprises a film carrier 11 which has pins 15 for locating the ends of the films and is movable from a cutting to a splicing station, the splicing station having a magazine with a tape carrying individual perforated self-adhesive strips. In operation the films are located on the carrier and the ends are severed by a rotary cutting blade 4 mounted on a pivotable lever 6. A self adhesive strip is prepared by drawing the tape 25 from the magazine over a sharp detaching edge 29. The leading edge of the strip becomes detached, passes over a roller 26 and on to a resilient support 16. The tape is withdrawn until perforations in the tape fit on to pins 31. At this point the rear edge of the strip remains attached to the tape and perforations in the strip will correspond to perforations in the film ends. The carrier 11 is then pivoted anti-clockwise about an axle 12 from the cutting to the splicing station so that it contacts a resilient support 16. The support 16 and carrier 11 pivot downwards about axle 12, tearing the rear edge of the strip from the tape and a resiliently mounted roller 23 rolls on to the strip folding it over the edges of the film ends.
