Abstract

1422415 Cinematography EASTMAN KODAK CO 22 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972(2)] 8733/73 Heading G2E Lengths of a photographic film 2 and a tabbing strip 5 are joined by arranging respective lengths of film and strip so that frame areas on the film and information areas on the strip are aligned. The strip and film are joined together and then severed from remaining as yet unjoined lengths of film and strip. As shown in Fig. 2 film 2 is fed from reel 1 and the paper tabbing strip 5 from reel 4 and mutually aligned in guide 19. Guide rollers 17, 25 are associated with brakes 38, 30 on reels 1, 4 respectively. Movement of the rollers 17, 25 to the phantom positions releases their associated brakes. Handle 55 is attached to a carriage carrying pins engaging the perforations in the film 2 and the strip 5. When the handle 55 is moved along the slot 58 the film 2 and strip 5 are advanced. As shown the strip 5 may be wetted by wick 39 and heating iron 41 lowered by handle 43. The heat and moisture soften the film emulsion to make it tacky and adhere to the paper strip 5. The iron 41 and wick 39 may be replaced by a steam iron. Lengths of the strips when joined may be cut off by knife blade 64.
