Abstract

993,918. Feeding webs. MOLINS ORGANIZATION Ltd. March 11, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10155/63. Heading B6B. In web-splicing apparatus the replacement web 4, previously prepared with an adhesive strip, is held in readiness to be spliced on a suction member 15, pivoted at 17. The running web 3 passes over a roller 7 supported on a lever 8 pivoted at 9. Also attached to the lever 8 is a knife 11 for severing the exhausting web 3 prior to splicing. A handle 10 is provided for manually pivoting the lever 8 to sever the web 3 and splice the trailing end to the leading edge of the replacement web 4 by the nip formed between the roller 7 and the suction member 15. The movement of the lever 8 is restricted by a pin 12 and slot 13. An overcentre spring 24 holds the lever 8 in position when the pin is at either end of the slot 13. Similarly, the movement of the suction member 15 is restricted by a pin 18 and slot 19, and a ball catch 20 retains the member 15 in the position shown in Fig. 2, just prior to splicing. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the lever 8 is held in cocked position by a spring-loaded catch arrangement. When the catch is released, a spring biases the lever 8 so that the expiring web is severed and spliced to the replacement web.
