Abstract

A splicing device 17 for connection of a terminating web 13 moving past a guide roller 14, proximity switch 39, guide rollers 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20 to an ensuing web 12 trained about a guide roller 23, past proximity switch 40, and about guide rollers 24 and 25 comprises two pivoted pressure plates 26 and 27 with handles 33 and suction holes 35. An end portion of the web 12 prepared with an adhesive tape lies on the surface 34 of the pressure plate 26. The machine (not shown) is stopped and the pressure plate 27 is swung over manually, whereby its knife 31 co- operates with a stationary knife 32 to sever the web 13, the pressure plate 27 presses the end portion of the web 13 on to the adhesive tape and the webs 12 and 13 are spliced together. The machine is restarted, a fresh reel is put in place its end Portion is provided with adhesive tape and put in readiness on the pressure plate 27. <IMAGE>
