Abstract

1,117,610. Cooling pistons. J. P. HINDLEY (Continental Aviation & Eng. Corp.). 29 June, 1965, No. 27409/65. Heading F2T. [Also in Division B3] An internal combustion engine piston 10 is cooled by circulating coolant through a cavity 40 formed in the piston head 12 and closed by a collar 30 fitted around a reduced portion of the head and secured thereto by electron beam welding. Cooling oil is supplied by the engine pump 56 through a nozzle 54 to the cavity 40 through an inlet 48 and is returned to the interior of the piston through an outlet 52. Piston ring grooves 38, 38A may be formed in the collar.
