Abstract

A maraging steel has the following percentage composition:- <TABS:1115808/C6-C7/1> Some of the Mo may be replaced by twice as much W up to a maximum of 8%. After hot working at 760-1260 DEG C. the steel transforms to martensite on cooling to room temperature. Transformation may be assisted by cold working or refrigeration. Ageing may be effected at 400-760 DEG C. and may be preceded by solution treatment at 760-1095 DEG C. The steel may be used for dies, bearings, machine tools, knives and razor blades.
