Abstract

A high strength steel, suitable for structural and hot work tool and die applications, has the following percentage composition: .C.0.4-0.55 .Mn.0.57-0.93 .Si.0.23-0.45 .Ni.0.35-0.7 .Cr.0.87-1.23 .Mo.1.88-2.27 .V.0.49-1.0 .P.up to 0.01 .S.up to 0.01 .Fe.the remainder and is heat treated by quenching from 1800-1900 DEG F. and tempering at 1000-1100 DEG F. The steel may also contain U, W, and Nb up to 0.3% in total. Specifications 894,841 and 894,842 are referred to.
