Abstract
A surface hardened forged steel roll is formed from a steel consisting of:- C 0.6 -1.3% Si 0.25-3.5% Mn 0.15-1.6% Cr 1.0 -3.5% Co 0.3 -8.0% Ni 0 -2.0% W 0 -2.0% Mo 0 -2.0% V 0 -2.0% the balance, apart from impurities, being iron. The rolls are heat treated by heating above the AC3 point and then quenching.
