Abstract
An aluminium base alloy consists of .Hg.0.003 - 0.04% .Bi.0.015 - 2.0% the balance, apart from impurities, being aluminium and is characterized in that the Bi:Hg ratio is from 5 to 53. The alloy may be prepared by adding a Bi.Hg pre-alloy and Bi to molten aluminium followed by casting. The alloy may be used as a sacrificial anode, as a pigment in paints, for anodes in primary batteries or sacrificial coatings on metals such as steel sheet. Also they may comprise the active ingredients in flares, for use in chemical reductions and in the preparation of aluminium alkyls.
