1,114,448. Making electrical steel sheet; improving physical properties. STEEL CO. OF WALES Ltd. 14 Oct., 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 30905/65. Headings B3A and B3V. A method of producing non-oriented electrical steel strip from low carbon mild steel with one or more of Mn, P, Si and Al as alloying elements, includes hot rolling an ingot into strip, cold rolling the strip to within 1-20% of final gauge, annealing the strip, and reducing it to final gauge in a stretcher levelling machine. The resulting strip is sheared to produce laminations for transformers, rotors, or stators either before or after an annealing step. The stretcher levelling machine may be installed in an annealing line if continuous inter-annealing is used. Suitable compositions for the strip are low carbon steel with up to 1À25% Mn and up to 0À50% P or iron alloys containing up to 3À5% Si, or up to 8% Al.
