Abstract

1,114,00. Sparking plugs. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. May 2, 1967 [Aug.17, 1966], No.20156/67. Heading F1B. A spark plug comprises an insulator 24 seated on an abutment 16 in the shell bore and the insulator has a central bore provided with a shoulder between the ground electrode 20 and the abutment of the shell. The insulated electrode comprises an exterior member 38 adapted to resist electrical discharge erosion and seated on the shoulder in the insulator and an interior element 40 in intimate heat conducting contact with the exterior member and extending with clearance between itself and the central bore beyond the abutment in the shell, a heat conducting composite 42 of metal powder and glass filling the clearance. The metal powder may be nickel or copper. The interior element may be of metallic wire. The resistor seal 44 can be made from mixtures of borosilicate glass, titanium oxide and boron carbide as disclosed in U.S.A. Specification 3, 088, 921.
