Abstract
1314597 Lightning arresters MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 3 Aug 1970 37373/70 Heading H2H A lightning arrester comprises a grounded housing 10 containing a plurality of spark-gaps 14 in series and having a plurality of resistors 16 and capacitors 18 connected across the gaps forming a voltage divider, the unit being connected between a non-linear resistor 12, e.g. of silicon carbide, and a line terminal 20 extending through the housing 10 and hermetically surrounded by an insulator 22, the spark gaps 14 being surrounded inside the housing 10 by a plurality of shielding rings 24 formed from tubular electrically conducting material each mounted by means of a conducting disc 26 between a pair of spark-gap electrodes as shown. In a modification. Fig. 2 (not shown), the tubular conductor forming some of the rings (24A) is of larger diameter than that forming the other rings (24B) and in a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ring assembly is surrounded in a block of solid electrically insulating material. In a third modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), each spark-gap is alternated with a non-linear resistor and the diameter of the conductors forming the rings progressively decrease towards the grounded side.
