Abstract

1,112,149. Treating loose fibres with liquids. UNISEARCH Ltd. 2 Dec., 1966 [6 Dec., 1965], No. 54033/66. Heading D1L. A mass of loose fibres e.g. wool is treated with a liquid e.g. aqueous sulphuric acid by introducing the loose fibres into a space between parallel portions of two porous conveyor belts 4 and 5 and uniformly compressing the layer of fibres so formed by weights W applied against a stationary plate a arranged in contact with one conveyor belt, there being a stationary plate b in contact with the opposite side of the other conveyor and the liquid being applied by jet J through an aperture in plate a or adjacent an edge of the plate. Plate b is supported on a bed d of porous material to allow liquid after passage through the layer of fibres to be collected in reservoir 3 from where it is pumped to the jet J. Squeezing rollers 2 are arranged immediately after the plates a and b. A plurality of such treatment apparatus may be connected in series (Fig. 2, not shown) and in one of the plurality the jets may be arranged below the level of the treating liquid in the reservoir and on opposite sides of the layer of fibres.
