Abstract

Apparatus for the continuous treatment of textile material with fluid comprises a vessel (1) rotated about its axis of symmetry (X-X), a tube (6) extending into the vessel along the said axis and terminating short of the closed end (3) of the vessel means e.g. a pair of rollers (19), feeding the material into the annular space (18) between the wall of vessel and the tube, and means e.g. a pair of drawing rollers (20), withdrawing the material through the tube away from the closed end, and means e.g. a pipe (15), for feeding treating fluid into the vessel through the tube (6), the Figure (not shown). The vessel may have a right circular cylindrical wall or a frustoconical wall. The tube (6) extends through a fixed cover (5) for the vessel, which cover is also provided with a material inlet port (11) and a port (12) leading to an air extractor. Inside the vessel, close to but spaced apart from the end of the tube there is a frustoconical grid (8) supporting the material. In the case of treatment with a liquid, the vessel is preferably situated with its axis of symmetry inclined to the vertical so that spent liquid spills over the lowermost point of the rim of the vessel to be wholly or partly recirculated or passed to waste. In use of the apparatus, material preferably in the form of a tow is coiled or plaited into the vessel, the fluid passing down the tube, countercurrent to the material, and up through the annular space (18) also countercurrent to the material. Several successive treatments of the material can be effected in a series of apparatus as described, such treatments comprising washing, bleaching and drying.
