Abstract

<PICT:0863619/IV(c)/1> <PICT:0863619/IV(c)/2> A method of liquid treating e.g. dyeing, steaming, a textile material, which may be followed by a drying operation (see also Group XIII) comprises wrapping the material in superposed layers on the perforated peripheral surface of a drum rotatably mounted in a closed vessel containing the treating liquid, the interior of the drum being in direct communication with the vessel through an opening in an end of the drum disposed at least partly below the level of the liquid within the drum, and effecting transport of the liquid through the opening into the interior of the drum, and from the interior outwardly through the perforations and the material wrapped thereon by rapidly rotating the drum. The apparatus in which the above method is performed comprises a vessel 7 having a loading door, a perforated rotatable drum 1, a fluid inlet 11 and an outlet 12, and an inlet 13 for steam or air under pressure. A mixture of hot air and steam, or hot air or steam alone may be introduced into the vessel 7. In a liquid treatment the liquid may be pre-heated, or steam may be passed through a coil 17 to mix directly with the liquid or through steam coils not shown. If subsequent to a liquid treatment it is desired to extract liquid from the textile material, the vessel 7 may be emptied and the machine operated as a centrifuge.
