Abstract

<PICT:0854221/IV (c)/1> In the wet-processing of yarns or textile piece goods, the material to be treated is tightly wound in a layer on a rotatable cylindrical hollow body the cylindrical wall of which is provided with a large number of openings for the passage of the treating liquid, and the said liquid is introduced into the interior of the cylindrical body while the latter is rotating on a horizontal axis and at a sufficient speed to expel the liquid by centrifugal force from the cylindrical body and through the layer of material to be treated. Preferably, the cylindrical hollow body has closed end walls. As shown, a cylindrical hollow body 1, rotatably supported, has a perforated cylindrical wall 12, and preferably has closed end walls 13. Treating liquid from storage vessel 7 passes through conduit 8 and the perforated conduit 2, which is either rigidly connected to 1 or so supported as not to rotate, and hence through the layer of material wound on 1, which rotates within the stationary enclosing vessel 3. Liquid running down the walls of the enclosing vessel is returned via collector 4, pump 5 and conduit 6 to storage vessel 7, or part of this liquid may be recycled directly to the cylindrical body via a collector. If an open-ended cylindrical body is used, and the quantity of treating liquid is sufficient to rise above the bottom wall of the perforated cylinder 12, the pump system may be omitted, since liquid will enter the cylinder by itself. As shown in Fig. III, conduit 2 may be replaced by a distributer comprising 2-4 branch conduits 14 which may or may not rotate with cylinder 1. Materials of, e.g., wool, cotton, linen, silk, rayon and synthetic fibres may be subjected to successive treatments, e.g. washing, rinsing, dyeing and rinsing, while wound on the cylindrical body.
