Abstract

1,014,339. Textile treatment apparatus. HEBERLEIN & CO. A. G. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1963], No. 32033/64. Heading D1L. Fabric and filamentary materials, e.g. woven, non-woven and knitted textile fabrics 4 warp threads, are washed by winding the material on to the perforated surface of a drum 5 rotatable about its longitudinal axis, periodically introducing charges of washing liquid into the interior of the drum, and rapidly rotating the drum whereby washing liquid is forced from the interior of the drum into the wound material and, during the intervals between the introduction of the charges of the washing liquid into the interior of the drum, at least part of the washing liquid in the wound material is forced out therefrom by centrifugal force, the material thereby being subjected to a plurality of washing treatments with separate charges of washing liquid. The washing liquid is preferably introduced into the drum for intermittent periods of 1-5 minutes duration and the intervals between these periods are preferably of 1-3 minutes duration. At the start of the operation, the liquid may be passed into the drum for rather longer periods than 1-5 minutes. The composition and/or temperature of the washing liquid may be altered during the operation. In one example, water at a temperature of 80-90‹C. having a washing agent dissolved therein is initially used and is then replaced by water at a temperature of 70-80‹C. and finally water at 10-20‹C.is used. According to the thickness and number of layers of the wound-up material, the perforated drum is preferably rotated at a speed of 50-300 revolutions per minute. The drum 5 is provided with a perforated jacket and a perforated hollow shaft 6. Washing liquid is supplied to the interior of the drum through a perforated shaft pin 7. A second shaft pin 8 is provided with a driving shaft whereby the drum 5 is rotated.
