Abstract

775,211. Ironing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 11, 1955 [Jan. 11, 1954], No. 873/55. Class 138 (2). [Also in Groups VI and XIII] A clothes treating machine comprises means for tumbling articles to be treated within a basket 1 surrounded by a housing 6, 7, a door 10 for an opening in the housing, and a container 21 for a treating liquid arranged on the inner surface of the door and provided with a nozzle 24 for spraying the liquid into the basket. The container 21 may be supplied with air under pressure through a flexible pipe 29 by means of a pump 26 driven by an electric motor 12. The liquid in the container 21 may be water for dampening the clothes prior to ironing them. The motor 12 rotates the basket 1 by means of a belt 15 and also drives a fan 16. The invention is applied to a clothes drying machine (see Group XIII) provided with an electric heater 17 and a timer control. During the liquid spraying operation a damper 20 hinged at 32 is closed. Operation of the machine is stopped immediately if the door 10 is opened.
