Abstract

1,111,756. Washing machines. LOHE & DR. ROSS G.m.b.H. 22 Feb., 1966 [22 Feb.,. 1965; 16 Dec., 1965], No. 7713/66. Heading D1A. The drum 2 of a washing and spin-drying machine is loaded with dirty linen by a conveyer arrangement while the drum is rotating faster than the normal washing speed, the drum rotating about a horizontal axis for washing and spin-drying. The drum 2 is mounted in a bearing 3 in tub 4 which is integral with motor 5 and transmission 6 and carries stub shafts 17, 18 engaging bearings 19, 20 carried on springing and damping elements 7. The pneumatic conveyor device, comprising a fan 8, a loading hopper 9, a conveyer tube 10 a nozzle 11 and a perforated hood 12 engaging tub 4, feeds the laundry to the drum 2 which is revolving at a speed faster than washing speed. The conveyer is then retracted. When washing and spin-drying has been completed, the tub 4 is tilted on shafts 17, 18 to deposit the laundry through chute 16. In the machine shown in Fig. 2, the stub shafts 17, 18, on tub 4 engage, fork bearings 19', 20', closable by pins 23 operated hydraulically or pneumatically and mounted on springing and damping elements 7 Mounted between elements 7 is a pair of power cylinders 25 with bearings 26 which engage stub shaft 27 on tub 4 to tilt it for loading from conveyer belt 29 and unloading onto conveyor belt 22 according to whether bearings 19' or bearings 20' are closed by their pins 23. The opening 14 is closed by a door 30, with a viewing window 33, mounted on parallel linkage arms 31 operated by doubleacting cylinders 32 so that it can be swung clear for loading and unloading. Drum 2 can only be driven when the door is closed or when the hood 13 is in position. Window 33 may be fitted with, an air-inlet union (37) Fig. 6 (not shown), through which air or hot air may be blown in during spinning, controlled by a damper (38) which prevents foam, steam and vapour from passing out during washing. When the washing is fed in pneumatically through a tube 10 a suction hood (43) and pipe (45) may be provided to remove the air and thus provide a disinfection laundry in which the dirty side (41) is separate from the clean side (40), Fig. 7 (not shown).
