Abstract

1,104,254. Thermal switches. SATCHWELL CONTROLS Ltd. 23 Nov., 1965 [25 Sept., 1964; 29 March, 1965], Nos. 39187/64 and 13285/65. Heading H1N. The temperature of a wash-tub is set by rotating anticlockwise a D-section shaft on which is rigidly mounted a cam 2 and loosely mounted a ratchet-cam disc 15 so that the cam 2 actuates a change-over switch 10 controlling a heater for the tub and the ratchet-cam disc 15 and cam 2 are retained against the action of a spring 7 by a pawl 4 pivoted at 9. When the temperature is reached a diaphragm or bellows 13 lifts pawl 4 thereby releasing ratchet-cam 15 and allowing cam 2 and ratchet-cam 15 to return to their initial position. The ratchetcam 15 may be released manually by rotating the shaft clockwise whereupon a lug depresses the pawl 4. As shown, the cam 2 drives ratchetcam 15 by the co-operation of lug 16 thereon with a lug 17 of the ratchet cam. In an alternative arrangement the ratchet-cam 15 is driven by a separate disc fixed to the shafts. The teeth of the ratchet-cam 15 have different radii to set the temperature.
