Abstract

1,104,264. Valves; alternative power and manual actuation of a member. PHILIPS PATENTVERWALTUNG G.m.b.H. 27 May, 1965 [30 May, 1964], No. 22579/65. Headings F2L and F2V. Operation of a power unit 2, e.g. an electric motor, actuates an element, such as a valve, through a pawl 12 engaging a recess 4 in a disc 3 on the unit 2, a lever 7 on which the pawl is pivoted, a setting member 5 rigidly connected to the lever, and a crank 6; the lever 7 follows the movement of the member 5 and serves as a position indicator. Should the power unit 2 fail, the element can be manually actuated by depressing a spring- urged button 8 to disengage the pawl 12 from the disc 3 and then positioning the member 5 by the lever 7; when the button is released the pawl enters one of a number of recesses 14 in a fixed part 13 to lock the lever and hence the setting member. When the power unit restarts and has rotated sufficiently to correct its deviation from the control cycle the recess 4 is aligned with the pawl 12 which snaps into the recess to recouple the unit to the element. The unit is provided with a device, e.g. two sets of contacts, to effect reversal of the power unit should it restart in the wrong direction.
