Abstract

1,097,586. Thermal regenerators. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO. Ltd. Oct. 16, 1964 [Nov. 7, 1963], No. 44010/63. Heading F4K. In a method of operating a group of regenerative hot blast stoves associated with a blast furnace, combustion air for the stove on gas is pre-heated in a stove which has just come off blast. Three stoves 11, 12, 13 have combustion gas outlets 11d, 12d, 13d, air inlets 11a, 12a, 13a which can be connected alternatively to a blast air supply pipe 14 or to a combustion air supply pipe 16, and outlets 11b, 12b, 13b for the heated air which is delivered as appropriate either through valves 17, 18 or 20 and a pipe 15 to the blast furnace or to the combustion air inlet 11c, 12c or 13c of the stove on gas. As shown stove 12 is on blast, stove 13 is on gas and stove 11 has just come off blast, the path of the blast air being indicated by broken lines and the path of the combustion air and the combustion gases by heavy solid lines. A by pass pipe 21 and a valve 22 enable the temperature of the air delivered to the furnace to be controlled. Figs. b and c (not shown) indicate the connections used when stoves 13 and 11 are on blast.
