Abstract
872,576. Pressure exchangers. SPALDING, D. B. Sept. 17, 1959 [Sept. 19, 1958], No. 30030/58. Class 8(1). The furnace of a boiler is in circuit with a pressure equaliser which may supply primary and secondary combustion air or operate to provide induced draught. The boiler 22 is supplied with combustion air by pressure exchanger 1 which combines air leaving a second exchanger 11 at 21 and air from a heat exchanger 23 in the furnace exhaust with the products of combustion from the chamber 17. The resulting mixture, mainly air, passes to ducts 7, 8 which are either joined to supply the furnace or supply primary and secondary air thereto. In a modification a third pressure exchanger is in circuit with the high pressure outlet of the second pressure exchanger and the flue and provides induced draught ; in this case the first pressure exchanger can be omitted. The second pressure exchanger may be replaced by a gas turbine.
