Abstract

A sliver coiling apparatus has a rotatable turntable for the can and guides on the turntable co-operating with guides on the can to guide the can into and from the sliver receiving position. The can, which has a springloaded sliver supporting plate, is mounted on castors and has fitted to its base a diametrically extending channel member with tapered ends. On the turntable and at the input and output sides of the turntable upstanding guide plates with guide balls define a guide way for the channel member. In operation after a predetermined amount of sliver has been coiled in a can the turntable is automatically stopped with its guide way in alignment with the guide ways on either side, and a rod, situated underneath the guide way on the input side and provided with two members to push two empty cans on the input side, is pneumatically operated to push one empty can onto the turntable and the other empty can into the reserve position. The full can, pushed off the turntable, is pushed clear thereof by another pneumatically operated rod which has a push member engaging in a slot in the channel member. On retraction of the rods the push members pivot downwardly underneath the cans. Pneumatic lock means are provided for the empty cans in the reserve position, and a spring pressed roller adapted to engage in a slot in the channel member is provided on the turntable to hold the can being filled.
