Abstract

915,606. Coiling textile sliver. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. March 1, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 7485/61. Class 120 (3). Apparatus for packaging tow 24 into a container 88 comprises means 10 for guiding the tow into the container, means 44, 46 for the reciprocation of the means 10 in a path transverse to the container and means 59, 60, 62, 64 carrying the reciprocating means and responsive to the completion of a stroke of the guiding means 10 for displacing the reciprocating means in a direction normal to said path. The tow 24 is fed by driven rollers 18, 20 through the guide or conduit 10, supported by a ball joint 14 and which has a bottom telescopic portion 12, and through driven rollers 26 into the container 88. The portion 12 is carried on a carriage 44 for movement along a rotating, double-threaded shaft 46 between adjustable stops 52, 54. When the carriage 44 contacts one of these stops a switch 56 starts a motor 74 to rotate doublethreaded shafts 62, 64, on which carriages 59, 60 secured to the shaft 46 move, for a predetermined time to move the rotating shaft 46 along the shafts 62, 64 to the left of the figures shown. After the completion of each stroke of the carriage 44 along the shaft 46 the latter is moved to the left. When carriages 59, 60 reach adjustable stops 70, 72 their direction of travel is reversed.
