[Also in Groups XXX and XL(b)] Apparatus for cold drawing metallic tubes of circular or other cross-sectional shapes and wires or rods of various cross-sectional shapes including angle sections comprises die means, a drawing block rotatable about a vertical axis around which the work is coiled and held thereon by the tension of the drawing operation, support means under said block, for receiving the coil when the drawing tension is released, conveyer means for returning the coil to said die means for further drawing and means for moving the coil from said support means to said conveyer means. A cylindrical drawing block 1 is rotatably mounted on a vertical shaft 2 secured to a frame 3. The block is rotated by an electric motor 4 driving through a two speed gearbox 5. A coiled workpiece 8 e.g. metallic tubing or wire is mounted on a swift 9 and the pointed end of the workpiece is fed through a die 7, and through a gap 10 is a protective cylindrical casing 6 which surrounds the block and then on to the block where it is attached. The die is traversed during the drawing operation so that the workpiece is evenly wound on the block said traversing being effected by a gearbox 11 driven by motor 4 through gearbox 5. When the workpiece has passed through the die the tension in the coil is relieved so that its diameter increases slightly and the coil falls from the block on to a turntable 12. In falling the coil actuates a switch 14 on the casing 6 which starts a motor 15 which rotates the table until the free end 18 of the coil strikes a switch 19 which stops the motor 15 the free end being now in a position for pointing. After the end 18 of the coil has been pointed by a machine 61 adjacent an endless conveyer 31 the coil is transferred to the conveyer 31 by means of a pulling arm 21 (Group XXX). The conveyer 31 and a conveyer 47 are set in motion. The conveyer 47 is movable vertically for conveying the workpiece to a third conveyer 74 which delivers the workpiece to the swift for a second drawing operation. Up to ten workpieces at a time can be handled by the plant and after the final drawing operation the workpieces are removed from the turntable 12 by a further pulling arm 82 similar to the pulling arm 21. The conveyers are controlled by electric switches and photo-electric cells (Groups XXX and XL (b)).
