Abstract

A sliver winding apparatus with downing and doffing means comprises a traversing bobbin frame 8 with a plurality of winding stations positioned one above the other and a rail-mounted trolley 17 movable towards and away from the frame 8 for supplying empty bobbins 13 (in position "a") and receiving fully wound bobbins (in movementbraking holder 59). The movable trolley 17 is provided with traversible carriages 19 with holders for the empty and fully wound bobbins. The carriages 19 are operatively connected to the frame 8 during the movement of the empty and fully wound bobbins. Each winding station comprises curved supporting slides 41, 42 for guiding the bobbins from supply position "a", to starting position "b", to winding-on position "c" where winding of an empty bobbin commences past a spring loaded flap 52 to a further winding position "d" where the main winding is performed, to a completed winding position "e". The bobbins are moved between these positions by rotary vanes 14. In operation, a sliver length counter (39) actuates a signal whereupon trolley 17 is moved manually or driven up to the frame 8 and is engaged therewith as shown in Fig. 1. Arm 57 then releases an empty bobbin 13 which moves from position "a" to position "b" to rest against one arm of the rotary vane 14. The vane 14 is rotated to move the vane into position "b" where serrated rubber driving elements on the bobbin 13 and driving drum 10 engage. Simultaneously, the other arm of vane 14 ejects a fully wound bobbin and the end of the sliver to be wound is engaged on card clothing on the empty bobbin and broken. The vane then moves the partially wound bobbin from position "b" to position "c". (For Figures see next page)
