Abstract

<PICT:0875715/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0875715/IV (a)/2> <PICT:0875715/IV (a)/3> In a spinning machine for producing artificial threads, the thread winding or collecting device, including its driving and traversing elements, is in the form of a compact self-contained unit detachably mounted on the machine. As shown in Fig. 1, which is a side view of a portion of a spinning machine, a bundle of filaments from a spinning head (not shown) is led over driven rolls 2 to one or more collecting or winding devices, each arranged as a compact selfcontained unit in and on a frame or housing 3. Each winding device has a friction roller 4 constructed as an electric motor having an external rotor rotating about a stator which is fixedly mounted on the housing 3 with its axis arranged transversely of the machine. A package support 5 axially parallel with the roller 4 bears directly, or through the package wound thereon, against the roller 4. The support 5 is mounted to be movable transversely of its axis, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, by fixing it on a guide member 6 which is displaceable by means of a ball-bearing guide along a rail 7 fixed in the housing 3. As shown in Fig. 2, which is a plan view of a single winding unit, the support 5 is rotatable about a fixed spindle 20, one end of which is mounted in the guide member 6. Yarn packages 9, 10 are built up on a tube (not shown) which can be withdrawn axially of the spindle 20. The spindle 20 and the member 6 are prevented from rotating about the rail 7 by an arm 21 (Fig. 3) having at one end a wheel 22 which can travel in a channelshaped rail 8. The latter can be moved transversely of its length in order to permit the spindle 20 with the package support 5 to be adjusted at an angle to the horizontal. The guide member 6 is engaged by a spring or by a weight-loaded cable (not shown) in such a manner that the yarn packages in the support 5 are urged against the friction roller 4 so as to be rotated thereby. A double thread guide 12 (Fig. 2) is reciprocated in a bearing in known manner in a path parallel with the package support 5 by a peg 14 engaging in the groove of a cam drum 13 which is a motor having an external rotor. Each housing 3 is guided by rollers 15, 16 (Figs. 1 and 2) in a machine frame 19 and is provided at its back with electric contact pins 17, 18 which engage co-operating electric socket contacts in the machine frame 19 when the housing 3 is pushed into the operative position. The broken lines 23 indicate the position of the yarn packages when fully wound, the supports 5 then having the position also shown in broken lines. The apparatus permits of increase in spinning capacity in a spinning machine of given length.
